Our heritage

It started as a hobby.
Assam made it a habit.

Sereki means the spindle the little wheel that turns raw silk into thread. Four looms at home in 1993, and a stubborn refusal to compromise on thread, guna or grace.

Sereki heritage drape photographed in Assam

Every Sereki piece is traceable to the loom and the weaver who wove it.

  1. 1993

    Four looms, no signboard

Reema Khargaria begins RIHA Reema Industries of Handloom and Art as a hobby with four looms at home. Word of mouth does the rest.

  2. 2000

    A shop that isn't a shop

Still no signboard outside. Customers keep returning, generation after generation, for the drape and the honesty.

  3. 2020

    Sereki goes digital

Anuksha takes the atelier online, so Assamese women abroad can drape home again.

  4. Today

    Assam, worn worldwide

32 years on, 90% of our silk customers come back for more from Guwahati to Sydney.

The craft

Four things we never rush.

01

Muga the golden fibre

Reared only in the Brahmaputra valley. It never needs dye, and it grows more lustrous with every wash.

02

Woven on wooden looms

No power, no shortcuts. A single mekhela sador can hold 15 to 30 days of one weaver's hands.

03

Buta drawn by memory

Kingkhap, gos-buta, miri-gos motifs passed down through families, never traced from a machine.

04

Made to be inherited

Silver and golden guna, neat borders, honest thread counts. Built for your daughter's wedding too.

Collections

Pick your drape.

Silk with a season, a story and a state behind it. Every piece can be customised colour, motif, border width, your way.

Handloom weaving in a village of Assam

Rooted in Assam

In Assam, a loom is not a machine. It's a room in the house.

Every home, a mill

Assam's handloom industry is one of the biggest in the country and in most homes, weaving is a daily rhythm, not a factory shift.

Woven by women

Traditionally Assamese women dominate the loom, weaving their personality into the cloth as therapy, as income, as identity.

A festival in thread

Motifs of birds, animals and flowers bloom on the borders. To wear one is to carry a Bihu morning with you.

The hands behind it

Silk has a maker.
Here are ours.
